Description
Olives of the Koroneiki variety for the production of Olivi oil are harvested in the south-west of the Peloponnese, in the Messinia region with its capital in the city of Kalamata, famous for its unique geographical location and climatic conditions. Olive groves are located there in close proximity to the sea, but behind low mountains. It seems that Nature itself has created this paradise for growing juicy, oily olives, from which grateful Greek peasants make one of the best olive oils in the world. The reference olive oil, according to Greek scientists, should be squeezed from the fruits of olives located 4 km from the sea and at an altitude of 400 m above its level, in addition, a certain composition of the soil, angle and orientation of the slope to the cardinal directions are mandatory. One of these reference plots with an ideal teroire (a set of the above conditions) is owned by the Nikolopoulos family, thanks to which the family has been receiving the best quality olive oil for many generations. Koroneiki olives are grown only in southern Greece. The oil from these olives is a natural product that combines low acidity (less than 0.38% with 0.8% permissible for Extra Virgin) and an exquisite fruity taste. Having tried it only once, you will not remain indifferent to the unusual rich fruity aroma with a slight peppery aftertaste. Polyphenols have antioxidant activity, most of them are in cold-pressed olive oil.
