Quite a rare variety of olives. Δαμασκηνοελιά, Plum Olive or “Plum Olive” is a revival of a very ancient Greek variety of olives, which is found in the works of ancient Greek authors. Its cultivation began and flourished in Argolis and eastern Arcadia on the coast of the Argolic Gulf. This tree can produce the largest olive size (up to 20 g). The Greeks call this berry "Γαϊδουροελιά" ("Gaidourelia" or literally translated "donkey olive"), in Russian transliteration - Gaidura. This berry has a special shape and taste with a strong aroma and dense pulp. Now giant golden berries are grown on the famous Peloponnese island. Outside of Greece, Argolid olives are called Gold Donkey, as well as Gaidura, Damaskinos and Argolida itself.
The fruits are oval-shaped, very juicy, slightly crunchy, with a characteristic and rare taste. Plum olives have a very specific shape and taste with a strong aroma and rich flesh. They are distinguished from other varieties of olives by their beautiful golden color acquired as a result of natural ripening, truly gigantic size and dense pulp. They are distinguished by a bitter, but very natural, most “olive” taste of all varieties.
Argolid olives are collected from olive trees in November, then marinated in brine with sea salt and red wine vinegar. For long-term storage, olives are transferred to deep sea salt. Before sending them to customers, they are re-packed, changing the specially prepared water several times.
